World Boxing Council (WBC) President, Mauricio Sulaiman, has confirmed that welterweight contender Conor Benn was dropped from the rankings due to his inactivity. Since his knockout victory over Chris Van Heerden in April 2022, Benn hasn't been in the ring.
Benn is currently embroiled in legal disputes with UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and the British Boxing Board of Control, which have led to a provisional suspension by UKAD, and subsequently, Benn losing his valid UK boxing license. This lack of boxing activity has forced the WBC to remove Benn from their rankings.
While no fights are scheduled for Benn at the moment, he has the option to appeal to the WBC regarding his ranking. In the recent past, there were talks about rescheduling a fight between Benn and Chris Eubank Jr., but this has been put on hold as Eubank has rescheduled a rematch with Liam Smith for September 2 in Manchester.
Despite the current situation, Benn could have a potential opportunity to fight former welterweight champion Kell Brook, assuming he manages to resolve his issues with UKAD.
