Tyson Fury may be preparing for his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk, but it’s the UK taxman who's delivering the first major blow. Despite a hefty $76.1 million share from the $190 million prize pool, Fury will see his payday significantly reduced due to income tax and National Insurance obligations in the United Kingdom. Projections estimate Fury will hand over £28.19 million ($35.7 million) in taxes, leaving him with approximately £31.81 million ($40.3 million).
The financial breakdown highlights the disparity between Fury and Usyk’s earnings. As the reigning WBA, WBC, and WBO champion, Usyk is set to receive 60% of the purse, equating to $114 million. With Usyk not subject to the same tax deductions as Fury, the Ukrainian will take home a substantially larger net figure from the rematch.

For Fury, this is not the first time the taxman has taken a significant chunk of his earnings. In their first bout earlier this year, Fury earned $103 million from a 70% share of the $147 million purse. However, his current 40% share of the rematch’s prize pool marks a notable reduction in both gross and net income compared to the May 2024 fight.
Despite the financial hit, Fury’s earnings remain extraordinary by boxing standards. His marketability and status as one of the biggest names in the sport ensure his fights consistently generate massive paydays.
