Heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, who has been in 34 professional boxing bouts since 2008 and famously beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, recently made a surprising claim. Despite his rich boxing history, Fury believes that wrestling, specifically WWE, is a tougher discipline than boxing. Speaking to ESPN, the WBC heavyweight champion stated, “WWE’s too hard for me. Boxing is much easier than WWE. Getting slammed on the floor in WWE is much more physical and taxing on the body than moving around the boxing ring to dodge punches.”
Fury’s remarks come from personal experience, having stepped into the WWE ring against Braun Strowman in November 2019 at the Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia. Although this was his only official WWE match, Fury emerged victorious and has since made several appearances for the wrestling brand.
Currently, Fury is gearing up for a crossover boxing match against ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou scheduled for October 28. Following this, he might face Oleksandr Usyk, holder of the WBO, WBA, IBF, and IBO titles, in a bout for undisputed heavyweight dominance.
Despite his boxing commitments, in a conversation with Sports Illustrated, Fury hasn’t ruled out a return to WWE. Reflecting on his boxing career, he said, “I’ve been [boxing] for 15 years. I know it won’t last forever. There is still a lot of opportunity in WWE. While my focus is currently on boxing, we’ll see about the future.”
Addressing criticism about his upcoming fight with Ngannou, Fury was dismissive of naysayers, commenting, “They’re just jealous. Haters are going to hate, but their opinions mean nothing to the king of the jungle.”
