Tim Tszyu’s return flight to Australia was delayed after the 29-year-old suffered a concussion in his stoppage loss to Bakhram Murtazaliev. Tszyu, who was dropped four times in less than three rounds during their IBF junior-middleweight title fight, was taken to the hospital as a precaution. His corner had thrown in the towel to protect him from further punishment in what turned out to be a rough night at the Caribe Royale in Orlando.
Matt Rose, co-promoter for Tszyu, provided an update, saying, “Most importantly, he’s woken up okay. He had a concussion but went to the hospital for precautionary reasons and is physically better today.” Tszyu will rest for a few days before heading back to Sydney, where additional tests will be conducted to ensure his full recovery.

With some critics questioning Tszyu’s training setup, particularly his relationship with his uncle and trainer Igor Goloubevk, Rose mentioned that it’s ultimately Tszyu’s decision whether to make any changes. “I don’t get involved in the training side, but Tim was physically ready for this fight. Sometimes things go wrong, and that’s just part of boxing.”
Despite the setback, Rose praised Tszyu’s bravery, calling him a “true warrior.” Now, the focus will be on Tszyu’s recovery and what steps he takes next in his boxing.
