Yesterday, ranked fourth in the WBA super-lightweight rankings Lewis Ritson (23-3, 13 KOs), faced the WBA’s number two opponent Ohara Davies (25-2, 18 KOs) in a 12-round championship eliminator.
As a result of the event, Lewis Ritson was dismantled by Ohara Davies, who then stopped him with a vicious left hook to the body in the ninth round to earn a world title shot.
Throughout the earlier rounds, Davies had boxed superbly, landing a ton of hard blows to the head and body without even actually getting hurt.
“When I first got into boxing, becoming world champion was my goal and my dream,” an emotional Davies said after the bout. “And as long as I keep my mind in the right place and stay focused I can do it. I’m going to achieve my goal and my dream and become a world champion.”
In the co-main event, during the course of five rounds, Otabek Kholmatov (11-0, 10 KOs) beat up Thomas Patrick Ward (33-1-1, 5 KOs). Prior to his corner giving up in round five, Ward had been knocked out three times.
