In an ode to the celebrated era of the four kings of boxing in the 1980s, welterweights Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford are gearing up for a showdown to claim undisputed welterweight supremacy. The fight, scheduled for July 29, aims to echo the time-honored performances of boxing legends like Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, and Roberto Duran.
“This is an old-school fight. This is what my dad used to talk to me about when he used to watch fights 40 years ago with all of the greats, and the four kings,” said Spence during the first episode of “All Access” on Showtime. The fighter continued by underlining the ruthless mentality of both himself and Crawford, promising an all-out war and an action-packed bout, akin to the fights of yesteryears. Spence’s sentiment embodies the spirit of the golden age of boxing, adding a dash of excitement to this already highly anticipated bout.
“This is what everybody clamors over. The best fighting the best,” Spence said. “Once the lights go on and the bell rings, it’s war time. It's a legacy-defining fight … It’s a fight made in heaven.” The fight, expected to come down to determination and willpower, will ultimately decide who breaks first. Spence and Crawford will bring their years-in-the-making clash to life at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, broadcast live on Showtime pay-per-view.
