Shane Mosley Jr., the middleweight son of the legendary Hall of Famer, is now a free agent after parting ways with Golden Boy Promotions. The news was confirmed in a press release issued by Mosley’s team.

"I want to thank Golden Boy Promotions for everything they’ve done for me over the years," Mosley Jr. said in a statement. "They’ve been instrumental in getting me to where I am today, and I’m excited for what the future holds as a free agent. I’ll be watching the Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia fight very closely. I want the winner, but I’m ready for any of the champions at 160 pounds. I’ve worked hard to get here, and now it’s time to take advantage of all that hard work."

Mosley Jr., 33, turned professional in 2014 and has had a career filled with ups and downs. He learned on the job, suffering early setbacks with losses in his third and 12th fights. A wide decision loss to Brandon Adams in 2018 seemed to cap his potential, and a majority decision defeat to Jason Quigley in 2021 appeared to confirm his ceiling. However, Mosley has since proven the doubters wrong with an impressive five-fight winning streak, including victories over Gabriel Rosado, D’Mitrius Ballard, and a recent clear decision over Daniel Jacobs.

Despite his recent successes at super middleweight, Mosley Jr. is focused on continuing his career in the middleweight division, where he’s ranked in the top 15 by all four major sanctioning bodies. The WBA has Mosley as their #1 contender, the WBO ranks him at #3, the IBF at #6, and the WBC at #4. With champions like Erislandy Lara, Janibek Alimkhanuly, and Carlos Adames holding the belts, Mosley is in a prime position to challenge for a world title in the near future.

"Shane is in an incredible position right now," said Mike Leanardi, Mosley’s manager and CEO of Victory Sports Ent. "As a top contender in all sanctioning bodies, we have a lot of options on the table. Our goal is to secure the biggest fights possible and bring Shane a world title opportunity in the near future."

What do you think, boxing fans? Is Mosley Jr. ready to make a run for a world title, or will the competition at 160 pounds prove too steep?
