Shakur Stevenson, a rising star in boxing, is hinting at a significant shift in his career trajectory. Stevenson, whose contract with Top Rank is nearing its end, stated that next year he would be a “promotional free agent” and is “considering every option possible.” The pivotal decision hinges on what makes the most “business” sense for the young boxer.

The grapevine suggests that the boxer may be leaning towards PBC, particularly because many believe this would set the stage for the much-anticipated face-off against Gervonta Davis. Stevenson must have observed the staggering $30 million payday Ryan Garcia bagged from his fight against Tank Davis and might be contemplating a similar windfall.

However, Mayweather Promotions, who are behind Davis, appear to strategically pick his opponents. They often opt for matches that guarantee a return on investment, and Shakur, despite his prowess, might not be the most lucrative option for them. Stevenson’s more defensive style contrasts sharply with the influencer-cum-boxer appeal of Ryan Garcia, which guarantees eyeballs and money.

In a candid conversation with Cigar Talk, Stevenson highlighted that while he cherishes his journey with Top Rank, once his contract expires in 2024, he’s ready to talk to anyone about the next steps. He emphasized that it’s all about great business, hinting that finances might be a significant consideration in his next move. However, he later contradicted this sentiment, stating he’s not driven by money but by his passion for the sport and his ambition to etch his name alongside the legends of boxing.
