Ryan Garcia has announced his intention to return to the 140-pound division for his next fight. Despite dropping down to a catch weight of 136 pounds for the biggest fight of his career against Gervonta Davis at T-Mobile Arena, Garcia admits he felt “weak” when entering the ring. Following his seventh-round knockout loss to Davis, the 24-year-old is certain that moving back up to 140 pounds will be beneficial for his performance.

Garcia shared his plans during his post-fight press conference, stating that he aims to fight the top fighters in the 140-pound division. Prior to facing Davis, Garcia weighed in at the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds for his bout against Javier Fortuna. However, Davis demanded a catch weight four pounds lower and a second-day weigh-in restricting both boxers from weighing more than 146 pounds late on Saturday morning.

The 5-foot-10 Garcia from Victorville, California, weighed in at 135.5 pounds on Friday afternoon, with Davis coming in slightly lighter at 135.1 pounds. Both fighters added approximately the same amount of weight prior to their second weigh-in. Although Garcia felt he didn't quite have his legs under him when entering the ring barely nine hours after their second weigh-in, he remains grateful for the highly publicized event that attracted attention outside of boxing's shrunken fan base.

Believing he is still a big attraction in the sport, Garcia is excited about the future and expects to become a world champion in the 140-pound weight class. When asked who he would like to fight in the junior welterweight division, he didn't mention any specific names but expressed his readiness to take on all top fighters, as he anticipates many will call him out.
