Richardson Hitchins, commenting on Shakur Stevenson’s recent fight against Edwin De Los Santos, believes Gervonta “Tank” Davis might now view Stevenson as a less challenging opponent. Hitchins feels that Stevenson’s defensive and evasive style in the fight will make him an unappealing opponent for top fighters like Davis, who prefer engaging and aggressive competitors.

Stevenson’s fight style, primarily defensive and based on avoiding engagement, is seen as a deterrent for potential high-profile matchups. According to Hitchins, Davis, who has yet to face fighters like Vasily Lomachenko, Devin Haney, or Teofimo Lopez, is unlikely to be interested in a bout with Stevenson, who is promoted by Top Rank.

For Stevenson to secure a fight with Davis, Hitchins outlines a nearly impossible set of changes Stevenson would need to make. These include changing promoters and networks, becoming a pay-per-view and gate attraction, accepting a significant split disadvantage, abandoning his defensive style, and fighting more aggressively in the pocket.

Hitchins points out that such changes are against Stevenson’s nature and fighting style. He suggests that Stevenson’s defensive tactics might lead to his contract not being extended by Top Rank, as his style may not be entertaining enough for fans.

Moreover, Hitchins questions whether Stevenson’s reported shoulder injury before the De Los Santos fight was a valid excuse for his performance. He notes that Stevenson has always used a similar fighting style, which does not resonate well with fans or potential opponents like Davis.
