The boxing world is abuzz with anticipation for a potential clash between Regis Prograis and Devin Haney, scheduled for December 9th. However, Prograis has revealed that the fight isn’t official yet, as Haney’s side of the contract remains unsigned. This revelation comes in the wake of Mike Coppinger's report that the bout was set for DAZN pay-per-view. Prograis, expressing his frustration, mentioned that he had signed the contract weeks ago and is awaiting Haney’s commitment.
Haney’s next move is under scrutiny, especially if the Prograis fight falls through. With a keen interest in securing a title at 140, Haney’s options seem limited. Rolando “Rolly” Romero, the WBA light welterweight champion, is currently sidelined due to an injury and has a mandatory fight lined up with Ohara Davies. While many boxing enthusiasts suggest that Haney should challenge IBF light welterweight champion Subriel Matias, others criticize him for seemingly targeting Prograis, viewing it as an easier path to a title.
The possibility of Haney facing WBO 140-lb champion Teofimo Lopez is also riddled with complications. Haney’s desire for a favorable purse split necessitates him having a title, and merely being a former undisputed champion doesn't bolster his negotiation stance. It’s clear that for any significant negotiations with Teofimo, Haney needs a decisive victory at 140, especially after the controversy surrounding his bout with Vasily Lomachenko, where many believed Haney was on the losing end.
