Yesterday at the Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota, popular KO artist Subriel Matias (19-1, 19 KOs) clashed with Jeremias Ponce (30-1, 20 KOs).
As a result of the event, Subriel Matas defeated Jeremas Ponce, halting him with a barrage of punches in the fifth round to win the vacant IBF light welterweight title.
After hitting Ponce with a barrage of blows late in the fifth round, Matias, 31, felled him with a left to the body. Matias attempted to end Ponce when he stood back up, but Ponce just about survived the round.
The bout was halted by Ponce's coach in between the rounds. The fifth round's stoppage occurred at 3:00.

In the undercard, Jamal James (28-2, 12 KOs) prevailed over Alberto Palmetta (18-2, 13 KOs) through a competitive 10-round unanimous decision, Elvis Rodriguez (14-1-1, 12 KOs) defeated Joseph Adorno (17-2-2, 14 KOs) in a close 10-round majority decision at light welterweight, Ve Shawn Owens (14-3, 12 KOs) outworked Kudratillo Abdukakhorov (18-2, 10 KOs), prospect Derrick Jackson (10-1, 5 KOs) was stopped by Willie Jones (9-2, 6 KOs) in the first round, pulling off a major upset and Mikkel Spencer (3-0, 2 KOs) destroyed Margarito Hernandez (3-5-1, 0 KOs) also by a first-round knockout.
