Negotiations between Emanuel Navarrete and Denys Berinchyk are advancing smoothly, with both parties nearing an agreement for the vacant WBO lightweight title bout. Initially prompted by the WBO to commence discussions on January 29, following Navarrete’s assertion of his “Super Champion” status, the fight is aimed at marking Navarrete’s attempt to clinch a title in his fourth weight class.

Represented by Top Rank, Mexico's Navarrete, and Ukraine’s Berinchyk, under the banner of Alex Krassyuk, might see their potential matchup hosted in San Diego this May.

Navarrete, is coming off a commendable journey across three weight divisions, including a significant victory over Oscar Valdez that propelled him to seek “Super Champion” status with the WBO. This status grants him the privilege to contend for a title at a new weight category, a privilege he’s leveraging for the lightweight division.

On the other side, Berinchyk, a 2012 Olympic Silver medalist and currently undefeated in his professional career, has been patiently waiting for a title opportunity. Despite not mirroring the professional achievements of his illustrious amateur teammates, Berinchyk’s victories over notable opponents have positioned him as a formidable contender for the lightweight title.

The boxing community eagerly anticipates the formal announcement of this bout, as Navarrete aims to extend his championship legacy across a fourth weight division, and Berinchyk seeks to capitalize on his long-awaited title shot.
