Jaime Munguia has shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash between David Benavidez and David Morrell Jr., set for February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Munguia expressed confidence in Benavidez’s ability to win, citing his greater experience as a decisive factor.
“I think Benavidez should win because of his experience. He is a stronger fighter, but Morrell is also very good. It’s going to be a big fight.”
As he anticipates the exciting matchup, Munguia is staying focused on his own career, preparing for his bout against Bruno Surace in Tijuana. The fight will mark his fourth appearance in 2024, following bouts against John Ryder, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and Erik Bazinyan. Munguia’s sole career loss came against Alvarez in May, but he rebounded strongly with a 10th-round knockout of Bazinyan four months later.
Reflecting on his preparation for the Surace fight, Munguia expressed his desire to deliver an emphatic performance for his hometown fans.
“We are going to try to do much better for this fight, leave with our arms raised for the knockout, and give a great show to all my people in Tijuana,” he said. He also acknowledged the strong support he’s received from fans in Arizona and expects the same energy in Tijuana.
