A cross-promotional clash between Matchroom Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions appears to be nearing finalization, with both sides indicating that a “5v5” event is in the works for mid-2025. Eddie Hearn of Matchroom says the card is likely to land in the United States around June, following a second Matchroom-Queensberry show in May.
Interest in a collaboration has been fueled by recent cooperative fights such as Shakur Stevenson-Floyd Schofield and Vergil Ortiz Jr.-Israil Madrimov, both scheduled for February 22 in Riyadh, plus the February 15 matchup between Jack Catterall and Arnold Barboza Jr. in Manchester. After Matchroom was swept 5-0 in a similar “5v5” versus Queensberry last June in Riyadh, Hearn and company see this as a chance at redemption.
Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya, speaking at the Ring Awards, confirmed the plans, saying it would mirror the Queensberry success but in favor of his own promotion. While we don’t know yet which fighters will fill the 10 available slots, both De La Hoya and Hearn have tossed around potential bouts, such as a welterweight collision between Ortiz and IBF titleholder Jaron Ennis, and a lightweight battle featuring Stevenson against William Zepeda.
Turki Alalshikh also mentioned earlier in the week that a “5v5” card is slated for late May, plus another event in the United States earlier in the month, though he offered no specific June date. Matchroom declined to comment further on the details of the possible summer show, while Golden Boy did not respond to requests.
