An agreement between Errol Spence and Keith Thurman is being finalized for a PBC on PPV battle that is anticipated to happen in April.

Although Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) is the current welterweight champion, this fight will most probably take place at junior middleweight. Spence was given a special dispensation by WBA president Gilberto Mendoza to compete outside of the weight class without giving up his 147-pound title, according to ESPN (he also holds the IBF and WBC belts).

Errol Spence, who is ranked No. 4 on ESPN's pound-for-pound list, hasn't fought since April of last year when he defeated Yordenis Ugas via ninth-round TKO. He broke Ugas' orbital while pursuing the third 147-pound championship. Spence's fight was his first since having surgery to fix a detached retina. He had engaged in two fights since being hospitalized in October 2019 following a major vehicle accident.

Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) is the No. 7 at welterweight. The 34-year-old from Clearwater, Florida, concluded a 31-month absence in February by defeating Mario Barrios by unanimous decision. Thurman's fight was his first since losing to Manny Pacquiao by a split decision in July 2019. He also successfully defended his welterweight belt five times, winning the rematch against Danny Garcia in 2017.
