Former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. will headline a Matchroom Boxing card in Sydney, Australia, on March 22 against an opponent yet to be named. This marks the Australian’s first outing since signing with Eddie Hearn. Skye Nicolson is also scheduled to appear on the bill.
Hearn initially hoped to match Kambosos with former IBF 140-pound champion Liam Paro, but Paro’s loss to Richardson Hitchins in December spoiled those plans. While Kambosos himself has expressed interest in facing Hitchins, we, as observers, are skeptical about how “Ferocious” would fare at junior welterweight, especially given his recent string of underwhelming performances since his upset win over Teofimo Lopez in 2021.

Kambosos holds a loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko, questionable majority-decision victory over Maxi Hughes in 2023 and suffered back-to-back losses to Devin Haney. Despite those setbacks, he remains confident, insisting he can regain championship form under Matchroom’s guidance. Will he show us his skills once again? We will see.
