According to Jose Benavidez Sr., Jermell Charlo is more devoted to boxing than Canelo Alvarez, which will lead to Canelo’s third career defeat on September 30th on Showtime PPV. Benavidez Sr. accuses Canelo of ‘cherry-picking’ Charlo from the 154-lb division to increase his chances of retaining his four belts. He also criticizes Canelo’s focus on golf, arguing that it’s detracting from his boxing career.

In the interview, Benavidez Sr. argues that his son, David Benavidez, who has been the WBC mandatory for two years, deserves a shot at the title. He also voices concerns about Canelo choosing fighters from lower weight classes to defend his belts, suggesting such practices aren’t good for the sport.

Expressing his views to MillCity Boxing, Benavidez Sr. stresses that Canelo should go down to his opponents' weight if he wants to fight them, rather than pulling them up to his class. He predicts that Charlo, being more boxing-focused, has a big chance to beat Canelo.

Addressing the other Charlo brother, Jermall, Benavidez Sr. sees a different scenario, considering his lifestyle and personal challenges, and he believes Canelo would stop him.

Lastly, Benavidez Sr. gives a nod to Caleb Plant, commending his fighting spirit, and hopes for a fight between Plant and Jermall Charlo. He commends fighters who put on a good show and face their challenges head-on, indicating his respect for Plant.
