Legendary broadcaster Jim Lampley, the unmistakable voice of HBO Boxing for three decades, is officially coming back to ringside on May 2 for The Ring magazine’s star-studded tripleheader in Times Square. The outdoor event will feature Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando "Rolly" Romero, Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez, and Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza, all part of The Ring's new venture in high-profile U.S. boxing shows.
After a six-year hiatus, Lampley announced his return via social media, describing the event as "groundbreaking for the sport" and expressing how thrilled he is to be involved. The 75-year-old Hall of Famer – who called legendary fights like George Foreman’s 1994 comeback KO of Michael Moorer and the iconic Gatti-Ward trilogy – hasn’t served as a live ringside commentator since HBO bowed out of boxing in 2018. In the meantime, he’s kept busy as part of PPV.com’s live chat team for major fights, including last weekend’s Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach showdown.
Fans who’ve missed his distinctive call can look forward to Lampley’s trademark drama and flair back on the mic. This comeback coincides with the upcoming release of his memoir, “It Happened! A Uniquely Lucky Life in Sports Television,” set to drop April 15. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more details about the May 2 fight card in Times Square – and get ready to welcome “The Fight Game’s” famous voice back into your living room!
