Jared Anderson candidly acknowledged the need for improvement after his victory against Ryad Merhy in Corpus Christi, Texas, despite a unanimous decision win that left the crowd wanting more.
Unimpressed with both his performance and Merhy's lack of engagement, Anderson expressed his dissatisfaction post-fight. “It was another night at the office, and I wanted to give the fans a better show, but what can you do when your opponent isn’t up to fight?” Anderson reflected on the fight in a discussion with ESPN. He noted that despite not being challenged, he was hit a few times—mistakes he vows to eliminate. “The fans, as much as I love them, can’t be the ones to take care of me if I get hurt. My goal is always to get hit the least, and that’s what I tried to focus on tonight,” Anderson added, emphasizing his strategy to minimize damage while securing the win.
Anderson, who now faces a court appearance for driving offenses, remains focused on his boxing career. His stablemate, Tyson Fury, the WBC heavyweight champion, has touted him as the future of heavyweight boxing. Anderson plans to return to his hometown of Toledo for a fight this summer, as he continues to eye the major titles in his division. “I’m ready to take on anyone ranked near me. We’re coming to knock everyone off and win those titles.”
