Cruiserweight contender, Jack Massey, is closely watching as Jordan Thompson prepares to challenge IBF cruiserweight champion, Jai Opetai. Earlier in January, Massey took on former WBO heavyweight champion, Joseph Parker, on short notice. Despite a commendable performance against Parker, Massey’s efforts went largely unrewarded, leaving him awaiting another fight opportunity. Massey expressed his desire to face WBO World champion Chris Billam-Smith, but acknowledges the challenges of boxing politics, which have previously hindered his career progression.

Massey’s resilience in the boxing ring has been evident, especially after his debatable loss to Richard Riakporhe in 2019 and his victory over Bilal Laggoune to win the IBO world title. However, the politics of boxing have often played against him, including losing his IBO title without a defense. Recalling his challenging times, Massey mentioned working on a building site before the Parker fight opportunity arose. He emphasized the importance of fighters taking on challenges, regardless of potential losses, to determine the best in the division.

Training with Joe Gallagher at the revamped Champs Camp in Manchester, Massey has been focusing on honing his skills and preparing for his next big opportunity. Gallagher’s vast experience and insights into the intricacies of boxing have been invaluable to Massey. The duo is working diligently to ensure that Massey is ready to seize his next chance and make a lasting impression.

Regarding Thompson’s upcoming fight against Opetai, Massey believes it’s a significant leap for Thompson, even suggesting it might be too big of a challenge for him.
