Regis Prograis, the reigning WBC 140-pound titlist, recently made his Matchroom Boxing debut against Danielito Zorrilla. However, the performance he put up has Jack Catterall’s advisor, Sam Jones, licking his lips in anticipation. Prograis, despite knocking Zorrilla down early in the fight, struggled to maintain control, with the agile Puerto Rican consistently keeping him off balance. The end result was a split decision in Prograis’ favor, but it didn’t escape his own admission that he wasn't at his best, vowing to work harder in the gym for future bouts.
In the aftermath of this event, one of Prograis’ next two fights might see him squaring off against Catterall, a skilled southpaw from England. Catterall’s controversial loss to Josh Taylor last year was seen as one of the biggest injustices in recent British boxing history. Sam Jones, Catterall’s advisor, is more convinced than ever that his client will best Prograis in the ring. In an interview with iFL TV, Jones expressed his respect for Prograis, but firmly believed in Catterall's capability to defeat him, stating that he could best Prograis anywhere, in any city or country.
Meanwhile, Prograis is being considered as a potential opponent for undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney. However, Jones believes that Haney has other, more pressing options to pursue, thereby leaving Catterall as a viable contender. Jones highlighted that Catterall joined Matchroom with the aim of securing a world title opportunity, and thus, a fight with Prograis could be the perfect opportunity for both fighters to prove their mettle.
