Jack Catterall, a 29-year-old British boxer, is aiming for a shot at the WBC light-welterweight champion Regis Prograis, a title fight he hopes to secure in October. Prograis, who recently signed with Matchroom, will make his first title defense against Danielito Zorrilla at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Saturday night. Catterall’s coach, Jamie Moore, asserts that Catterall wants the next chance to dethrone the overwhelmingly favored Prograis.
Catterall, also signed with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, broke a 30-month spell of relative inactivity this past May with a victory over Darragh Foley on points in Manchester. Moore sees a fight against Prograis, should he win against Zorrilla, as the logical next step for both fighters. Moore emphasized the importance of Catterall regaining momentum at this peak stage of his career.
Looking forward, Moore disclosed that Eddie Hearn has promised to keep Catterall active, regardless of whether the fight against Prograis materializes in October. This could include a September fight followed by a December bout. Catterall’s most recent loss was against Josh Taylor in February 2022, a closely contested match that many believed Catterall won.
Moore has high hopes for Catterall’s future, insisting that he is deserving of back-to-back title shots. The coach’s ideal scenario is a fight against Prograis followed by an attempt on the WBA belt, stating his belief that Catterall can beat Prograis and go on to win against whoever holds the WBA title, whether it be Rolly Romero or Ohara Davies.
