Devin Haney didn't hold back as he reacted to Regis Prograis’ unanimous decision loss to Jack Catterall on Saturday night in Manchester, England. Fresh off his defeat, Prograis graciously told Catterall, "You’re the best I’ve fought," recognizing the British fighter's skill and suggesting it might be time for him to pass the torch. But Haney wasn't buying it.
Following Prograis' statement, Haney, who handed Prograis a rough loss last December, took to social media to claim responsibility for "ruining" Prograis. It was a dig many fans saw as salt in the wound, given Prograis’ performance and his acknowledgment of Catterall’s talent. Haney’s message sparked debate among boxing fans, some of whom reminded him that his own career faced heavy criticism after a grueling, tactical fight against Ryan Garcia in April that left many doubting Haney’s future.
Catterall, often seen as an underdog, stunned fans with his power, dropping the seasoned Prograis twice in the ninth round and putting him on the defensive for much of the final stretch. In the twelfth, Prograis attempted one last powerful shot, only to lose his balance and hit the canvas in a moment that seemed to encapsulate his challenging night. The final scorecards read 117-108, 116-109, and 116-109 in Catterall's favor, a result that might mark the end of Prograis' career.
While Prograis didn't officially announce a retirement, he reflected on his legacy post-fight, saying, "I had my time in the sun. It’s time to turn it over to him," referring to Catterall.
