Eddie Hearn, the renowned boxing promoter, has high expectations for Devin Haney in 2024, predicting three major fights that could significantly elevate Haney’s status in the boxing world. Haney, currently the WBC 140-lb champion with an undefeated record of 31-0 and 15 KOs, is poised for a potentially monumental year.
Hearn’s first target for Haney is a bout with Ryan Garcia in March or April. Garcia, holding a 24-1 record with 20 KOs, is currently focused on a potential match against WBA 140-lb champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero. However, Hearn believes a lucrative offer could sway Ryan to choose Haney over Rolly. A Ryan Garcia fight promises substantial pay-per-view buys and high gate revenue, especially if held at San Francisco’s Chase Center, where Haney recently sold out against Regis Prograis.
Another exciting prospect for Haney is a unification fight with Teofimo Lopez, the WBO titleholder, in mid-2024. Lopez, eager for big paydays, could see this as a golden opportunity. Hearn also envisions a challenging bout for Haney against Gervonta Davis towards the end of the year, a fight that might require Haney to adapt his style significantly.
Looking beyond these three fights, Hearn likes the idea of Haney stepping up to 147 to take on Terence Crawford. However, such a move would require careful planning, as jumping directly into a fight with Crawford upon moving to welterweight could be a steep challenge.
In Hearn’s view, Haney stands unmatched in the 140-lb division, citing his speed and movement that outclassed Prograis. While fans are eager to see Haney take on all these big names, there is also a desire for him to face IBF champion Subriel Matias in a unification bout.
