Devin Haney, the former unified lightweight champion, has announced that he's in London to discuss a possible bout on a Turki Alalshikh-led Riyadh Season event, potentially superseding his previous plan to return on March 24 under BLK Prime. Haney, whose last fight ended in a no-contest against Ryan Garcia in April, mentioned he's open to seeing if he can "iron something out" for a big show in Saudi Arabia.
Haney was dropped three times in that Garcia fight before the result was overturned due to Garcia’s positive drug test. Since then, Haney has been declared the WBC's "junior welterweight champion in recess," and has reportedly been searching for a noteworthy opponent for his comeback. While there are rumors of a showdown with Adrien Broner, Haney says that matchup isn’t set but remains "possible."
Though BLK Prime has offered Haney a platform for a March 24 return, he indicates these new talks with Alalshikh could produce an even bigger opportunity. For now, we await news on whether he’ll indeed go to Saudi Arabia - or stick to the initial plan on BLK Prime - and who he’ll face in what would be his first fight in almost a year.
