Floyd Mayweather Jr., the titan of the boxing world, left the ring undefeated in his professional career, boasting a record of 50-0 after his 10th-round victory over Conor McGregor in 2017. Regardless of the range of tactics deployed by his opponents, Mayweather consistently proved triumphant. At 46, the boxing legend retired, seemingly having nothing more to prove.
Nonetheless, Terence Crawford, a talent from Omaha, Nebraska, has been stealthily inching towards Mayweather’s flawless record, standing currently at an impressive 39-0. Crawford has long imagined himself squaring off against Mayweather. But with his move to the welterweight division in 2018, a year after Mayweather’s retirement, their paths didn’t converge.
In a hypothetical showdown between the two, Crawford expressed confidence in his ability to best Mayweather, even going as far as suggesting that Mayweather’s undefeated record would have been shattered. “Me,” said Crawford on Million Dollaz Worth of Game, when asked who would have won in their hypothetical bout. “Man, me.” The prospect of Crawford challenging Mayweather’s supremacy is a tantalizing ‘what if.’ However, his current focus is on the upcoming high-stakes bout against Errol Spence Jr., slated for July 29th, in a fight for undisputed glory.
On paper, Spence (28-0, 22 KOs), who holds three of the four titles at 147-pounds, appears to be Crawford’s toughest challenge yet. However, Crawford, the slight favorite according to oddsmakers, is unwavering in his confidence. He firmly believes that he will emerge victorious, not only against Spence but against any historically great fighter. His unyielding conviction in his own prowess suggests that he anticipates maintaining his own undefeated record.
