Daniel Cormier, a former UFC champion, has expressed his support for Francis Ngannou in his upcoming boxing fight against the renowned British heavyweight, Anthony Joshua. This bout, scheduled for March 8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marks Ngannou’s second venture into professional boxing.
Ngannou, who debuted against Tyson Fury last October, surprised many by dropping Fury in the third round and challenging him throughout their fight. Despite Fury’s narrow victory, Cormier sees great potential in Ngannou’s performance. “He was an amateur when he fought Tyson Fury,” Cormier noted on his YouTube channel. “Now he’s shared the ring with the lineal heavyweight champion of the world, knocked him down and fought a very competitive fight.”
Cormier expects Ngannou to come back stronger in his fight against Joshua. He pointed out Joshua’s cautious approach in his rematch against Andy Ruiz, speculating on how Joshua might respond to someone like Ngannou, who brings an intimidating presence and significant power.
Cormier believes the key for Ngannou lies in his aggressiveness. “He’s got to be a little more ferocious in his approach,” he advised, suggesting that Ngannou’s intensity could potentially overwhelm Joshua, neutralizing his more refined boxing skills. Cormier is confident that if Ngannou can apply this strategy effectively, he stands a real chance of securing a victory against Joshua.
