Most Valuable Promotions has firmly dismissed the conspiracy theories circulating about Jake Paul’s win over Mike Tyson on November 15 in Arlington, Texas. Critics, including former NFL star Michael Irvin, have suggested that the bout was scripted, a claim MVP labeled as “illogical and an insult to the fighters.”
The fight saw Paul, a 27-year-old active boxer, earn a unanimous decision victory over a 58-year-old Tyson, and therefore fans and critics questioned why Tyson, once known for his devastating uppercuts, did not display his signature moves. However, MVP and others pointed to Tyson’s age, physical condition, and the natural limitations of a fighter who retired nearly 20 years ago.
Irvin’s claims on a sports talk show suggested that Tyson was contractually restricted from throwing certain punches, a theory MVP quickly shut down. “Rigging a professional boxing match is a federal crime in the United States,” their statement read. They emphasized that the fight was fully sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, with no restrictions on either boxer’s ability to compete.

MVP also highlighted the stakes involved with their new broadcasting partner, Netflix, which streamed the fight to a reported 65 million households. “It is inane to suggest we would jeopardize our long-term partnership with Netflix by violating competition rules,” the promotion added.
While skepticism remains a staple, MVP urged fans to consider the reality of the matchup - a 27-year-old in his prime against a 58-year-old who last fought competitively during the George W. Bush administration. “Trash talk is part of sports, but questioning the effort of these fighters is an insult to their dedication and the sport itself,” the statement concluded.
