Welterweight boxer Conor Benn is set for a return to the ring next month, despite facing legal hurdles and a tarnished reputation. The 26-year-old has been in the eye of a storm following two positive tests for the banned substance clomifene last year, leading to the cancellation of his much-awaited match against Chris Eubank Jr. Additionally, Benn surrendered his British Boxing Board of Control license, restricting him from fighting in his home country.

The situation took another turn when UK Anti-Doping, after initially suspending Benn, recently reversed the decision. This has sparked an appeal from both UKAD and the BBBofC, challenging the panel’s decision. Amidst this controversy, Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing supporting Benn, has announced a September comeback for the fighter.

However, Hearn’s announcement is not without its complexities. While Benn remains keen on a UK match, unresolved issues with the BBBofC might force him to look towards the US for his next bout. Despite this, major US commissions have already expressed reservations about licensing Benn, adding another layer to the unfolding drama.

Hearn remains optimistic, hinting at Benn possibly fighting in the UK or the US. “Given the current climate, it’s hard to predict the future. But we’re exploring all options for Benn's return,” stated Hearn.
