Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, a prominent boxing trainer, has narrowly avoided imprisonment in the UK. Reports suggest that he received a 20-month suspended sentence due to being caught carrying a loaded firearm. Journalist Ollie McManus states that McIntyre is now under a two-year suspended sentence, meaning that any subsequent arrest for a similar offense in the UK within this period will result in immediate jail time.

The timing couldn’t have been worse for McIntyre, who is in the spotlight due to his partnership with Nebraska-born boxer, Terence Crawford. Crawford, the undisputed welterweight champion, would have felt the impact significantly had his trainer been imprisoned. The incident occurred in Manchester, England, where McIntyre was detained after authorities found a gun in his luggage post the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Liam Smith bout.

Speculation abounds about why McIntyre felt the need to arm himself, and the origin of the weapon remains a mystery. Was it for personal security? And crucially, was it acquired in the UK or brought from the U.S.?

This news brings relief to Crawford’s camp, as they prepare potentially for a rematch against Errol Spence Jr., or even a high-profile face-off with the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez.

However, McIntyre’s decision to carry a weapon while traveling internationally raises eyebrows and concerns. It would be prudent for him to hire a bodyguard during future trips, ensuring both his safety and compliance with international laws. Given McIntyre’s earnings from his association with Crawford, hiring protection should be feasible, allowing him to focus on the sport without such distractions.
