Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to face off for the undisputed heavyweight championship. Although Filip Hrgovic is the mandatory challenger for Usyk's IBF title, the governing body has approved the Fury-Usyk bout, which is expected to take place by March 2024. ESPN's Mike Coppinger confirmed that both fighters have signed contracts for this highly anticipated match.
Fury will be defending his WBC title, while Usyk, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, will be putting his WBA, IBF, IBO, and WBO titles on the line. The winner will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in 1999.
Before this clash, Fury is scheduled to fight MMA superstar Francis Ngannou in the 'Battle of the Baddest'. On the other hand, Usyk recently defended his titles with a ninth-round victory over Daniel Dubois in Poland. The fight had its share of controversy when Usyk was knocked down by a body shot in the fifth round, which the referee deemed as a low blow. After a brief pause, the fight resumed, and Usyk eventually secured a win by knocking out Dubois in the ninth round.
Details regarding the date and location for the Fury-Usyk bout will be announced in the coming days.
