Bill Haney has fired back at Teofimo Lopez Sr., who recently claimed that Devin Haney was avoiding a fight with his son, Teofimo Lopez Jr. According to Lopez Sr., Haney dodged the chance to face Lopez Jr. when he held the IBF and WBO lightweight titles. However, Bill Haney has rejected those claims, insisting that Devin is ready and willing to face Lopez Jr. anytime.
In a recent interview with FightHype, Bill stated, “Every opportunity to fight, we put it on the table for you, including an opportunity with Turki Alalshikh and your company, Top Rank. Devin wants to fight you whenever, wherever, including right now.”
Devin, 25, has been out of the ring for six months following the controversial outcome of his fight against Ryan Garcia. Initially losing a 12-round decision, Haney’s loss was overturned to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for ostarine, a banned substance. Despite Garcia denying the allegations, he was fined $1.1 million and suspended for a year, while Haney has taken legal action, suing Garcia for fraud and battery.
The lawsuit has stirred mixed reactions, but Bill Haney remains firm, saying, “The lawsuit stands. This is business, and it’s justified in boxing. We’re not backing down.”
