Vladimir Shishkin’s promoter, Dmitriy Salita, has filed an official appeal with the German boxing commission following Shishkin’s controversial unanimous decision loss to William Scull last Saturday. The super middleweight bout, which was for the IBF title, has drawn criticism due to questionable officiating and scoring.
Despite Shishkin outlanding Scull 110-80, all three judges ruled in favor of the Cuban fighter, who is based in Germany. Salita’s main concern is the referee's failure to penalize Scull for infractions such as hitting behind the head and holding, while judge Rene Fiebig's scoring of the 12th round in Scull's favor - despite Shishkin outlanding him 13-5 - has further fueled the controversy.
Salita is now pushing for a review of the fight with a neutral panel of judges, hoping to overturn the result. If successful, Shishkin could still be in the running for a potential fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
