Promoter Eddie Hearn recently highlighted that if a January fight deal with Deontay Wilder doesn’t materialize, heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is eyeing a December return. The awaited clash, if it proceeds, is slated for Saudi Arabia, sponsored by the Saudi-based Skill Challenge Promotions.
Despite continuous talks, the Wilder fight’s status remains uncertain. Hearn shared with IFL TV, “Though everyone’s discussing it, it’s not confirmed. If no agreement is reached soon for January, Joshua’s inclined to step into the ring this December. However, the primary aim is the Wilder showdown.”
In recent events, Joshua marked a victory in April over Jermaine Franklin and showcased a remarkable knockout against Robert Helenius last month. For a potential December bout, Hearn hints that Joshua might face opponents akin to Helenius or Dillian Whyte.
On Joshua’s performance and prospects, Hearn remarked, “Expect Joshua’s pinnacle performance in significant bouts. If there’s another fight this year, it’d likely be against fighters of Dillian or Helenius’ caliber. While another 2023 fight isn’t harmful, its outcome won’t necessarily affect a potential Wilder match result.”
