Callum “King” Walsh (7-0, 6 KOs) is set to make his first defense of the WBC US Silver super welterweight Title against Juan “El Pitbull” Jose Velasco (24-4, 15 KOs) of Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles and will be globally broadcasted on UFC Fight Pass.
Originally, Walsh was set to battle Livan Navarro, but due to a training injury, Navarro had to step down. Velasco, an experienced boxer, is not an easy replacement. He has faced numerous renowned champions and contenders, including the likes of Regis Prograis and Elvis Rodriguez. Velasco’s recent record includes a contentious split decision loss to Flavius Blea in May 2023.
Promoter Tom Loeffler commented on the change, stating, “While it’s unfortunate about Navarro’s injury, Velasco brings a unique challenge for Walsh.”
Behind Walsh’s success stands the legendary trainer Freddie Roach, who has been preparing him at the esteemed Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, CA. Under Roach’s guidance, the 22-year-old Walsh clinched the WBC US Silver super welterweight title in June with a remarkable fourth-round stoppage of Carson Jones.
