The main event, a super lightweight clash between Alex Vargas (13-0, 5 KOs) and Julio Rosa (8-3, 4 KOs), will see the two compete for the vacant WBA Continental USA Championshipat the Paramount in Huntington, New York live on Star Boxing TV.
Originally, Pittsburgh's Matt Conway was all set to square off against Bellport's fan favorite, Alex Vargas, in a much-anticipated main event. However, Conway’s unfortunate fractured elbow, sustained during training, forced him out of the bout.
Both fighters have their eyes set on this maiden professional title, emphasizing the significance of the fight. Vargas, preparing for his 10th appearance at The Paramount, expressed, “It’s still the same mission. Win and become the new WBA Continental Champion.”
On the opposite corner, Rosa is determined to bounce back from a recent majority decision defeat. With victories in four of his last five matches, Rosa is keen to return to Orlando as the new WBA champion.
Rosa conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for this title shot, saying, “I am extremely grateful to the promotion and to God because I feel that my dream of becoming a world champion is beginning to take place.” Ready to represent Bayamon, Puerto Rico, an area steeped in boxing tradition, Rosa added, “I will take advantage of the moment to the fullest... I won’t waste it.”
