Rey Vargas, a two-division world champion, will compete for the vacant WBC Super Featherweight World Championship against top contender O'Shaquie Foster. The 12-round fight is planned for a PBC card in San Antonio, Texas, and Showtime will broadcast it live.
Vargas (36-0, 22 KOs) from Mexico, aims to win three world championships. On July 9 in 2022, he defeated Filipino Mark Magsayo to win the WBC world featherweight championship by split decision.
The mandatory challenger for the WBC world title at 130 pounds is Foster (19-2, 11 KOs). He defeated Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov by unanimous decision in his most recent contest on March 18, 2022. Fosters victory over Yaqubov was his first since stopping former world championship challenger Miguel "Mickey" Roman in December 2020. He also has won nine straight fights since suffering a split decision loss to Ronaldo Chinea in July 2016.
