Angelo Leo (22-1, 10 KOs) and Mike Plania (29-3, 16 KOs) are set to headline a featherweight bout on January 31 in the ProBox TV’s Wednesday Night Fight series, taking place at Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida. This ten-round regional featherweight title fight marks a significant moment for both fighters as they aim to make their mark in the featherweight division.
Angelo Leo, the 29-year-old fighter from Albuquerque, New Mexico, who now trains in Las Vegas, is making his second appearance at this venue and weight class. He had officially moved up to featherweight before his ninth-round knockout victory over Nicolas Polanco last November, also on the ProBox TV platform. Leo is a former WBO junior featherweight titleholder, having won the belt in August 2020 against Tramaine Williams. However, his reign ended with a loss to Stephen Fulton in January 2021. Since then, Leo has recorded two wins, including a narrow victory over Aaron Alameda in June 2021, his last fight at junior featherweight.
Mike Plania, the 26-year-old fighter from General Santos City, Philippines, is looking to establish himself as a contender in the featherweight division. He previously gained attention with a June 2020 upset win over Joshua Greer Jr., but suffered setbacks in his journey, including a ten-round defeat to Ra’eese Aleem in September 2022. Plania's record since then includes three victories, all first-round knockouts against lesser-known opponents, and a third-round knockout loss to Elijah Pierce last August in Atlanta. His most recent win was a first-round knockout of Daniel Nicolas in December in Paranaque City.
This fight between Leo and Plania is a pivotal moment for both fighters, with Leo seeking to continue his success in the featherweight division and Plania striving to rebound and assert himself as a serious contender. The bout promises to be a compelling clash, offering both fighters a chance to prove themselves and advance their careers in the competitive featherweight landscape.
