Eduardo "Rocky" Hernandez (35-2, 32 KOs) has signed a new promotional deal and will be fighting Thomas Mattice (22-3-1, 17 KOs) in the main event of a DAZN show on September 13 in Hermosillo, Mexico. This comes after Matchroom Boxing extended Hernandez's contract.
"We were delighted to sign Rocky to a multi-fight deal, and this is going to be a cracking fight," said Eddie Hearn, Matchroom chairman. "You know what you are going to get from Rocky – pure action. And Thomas has proved that he’s got the power to match the skill, and definitely has the heart to come to Mexico and pull off the win. This will be another must-watch Rocky Hernandez fight."
Last October, Hernandez was very close to winning his first major title, but was stopped by O’Shaquie Foster in the final 30 seconds of the fight. Although he was ahead on two of the three scorecards, Hernandez was dropped twice by Foster, resulting in a dramatic stoppage. This loss ended his six-fight winning streak, all of which were won by knockout. However, he made a comeback by defeating Daniel Lugo in the seventh round in May in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

“Mattice is a great fighter and he’s been overlooked,” Hernandez said. “He is very talented, and he has a similar style to Foster, so I want to prove to the world that I’m more than ready for him, and anyone else I need to fight to become a World champion.”
Thomas Mattice has had a five-fight winning streak, which includes back-to-back upsets over previously unbeaten fighters. The 33-year-old from Cleveland dropped Christian Tapia twice for a points win in November 2022 and controversially stopped Ramiro Cesena in the tenth round in April 2023. Mattice also added an eighth-round TKO over former titlist Cesar Juarez last November.
"I’m excited and ready to fight come September 13,” said Mattice. “This fight gives me the chance to make myself a bigger player in the junior lightweight division and establish my presence in the division. It’s gone be every bit of exciting as all my fights are. I’m ready to challenge myself with the top guys and it start with this fight in Hermosillo."
