After a 19-month hiatus, the fighting pride of Nicaragua, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (51-4, 41 KOs), is set to make a much-anticipated return to the ring. Gonzalez, a former four-division world champion, will face Colombian puncher Rober Barrera (27-5, 17 KOs) in a 10-round bantamweight main event on Friday, July 12, at Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua.
The main event, along with additional fight action, will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
Gonzalez has captured titles in minimumweight, light flyweight, flyweight, and junior bantamweight during his illustrious 19-year professional career. Known as one of the greatest lighter-weight fighters in boxing history, Gonzalez's return is highly anticipated by fans and pundits alike. His opponent, Rober Barrera is a formidable challenger on a three-fight winning streak.
In addition to the headline fight, several other bouts are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
