Cardenas (24-1, 13 KOs), who is ranked No. 10 by The Ring at 122 pounds, will face Jesus Ramirez Rubio (22-2-3, 16 KOs) on Wednesday night at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida. The 10-round bout will be broadcast live on the ProBox TV app and YouTube page. Both fighters weighed in at 121.2 pounds during Tuesday’s weigh-in.
Chris Glover of ProBox TV commented on Cardenas' swift rise in the rankings, stating, "Ramon Cardenas is one step away from a world title shot. He knows he can't afford to slip up. Ramirez is tough and eager to right the wrongs against Nick Ball and put himself in contention. The winner could potentially face former world unified titleholder Murodjon Akhmadaliev."
The 28-year-old Cardenas comes off a win where his opponent Israel Rodriguez couldn't continue after the sixth round due to a broken jaw from a punch landed by Cardenas. The stoppage was controversial as two judges had the fight even, and one had Rodriguez ahead. Cardenas has shown increased power and aggression in recent fights, having stopped four of his last five opponents. He is currently on a 12-fight winning streak since a majority decision loss in April 2017.
His opponent, Ramirez from Guaymas, Mexico, is looking to rebound from a first-round knockout loss to Nick Ball in November 2022. Since then, Ramirez has returned to win by knocking out Felipe Carlon Lopez in the seventh round.
