Fight Details

Carlos Cañizales (26-2-1, 19 KOs), considered the best Venezuelan boxer today, is set to make a comeback in his homeland against Mexican boxer Iván García (12-2-1, 6 KOs). The bout is scheduled for Friday, July 19, and will see Cañizales and García compete for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver title in the light flyweight division.

Cañizales, hailing from Caracas, Venezuela, will enter the ring for the second time in 2024. Earlier this year, he suffered a majority decision loss to Japan's Kenshiro Teraji in a fight for the WBA and WBC world titles. Cañizales, also known as "Triple C," has been relatively inactive recently. However, he secured victories in March 2022 by knocking out Mexican Ganigan Lopez in the fourth round and again in September by stopping Armando Hernandez to claim the WBA Fedecentro title. In his sole 2023 fight, he knocked out Cuban Daniel Matellon.

Iván García, from Ixtapaluca, Mexico, will return to Venezuela following a controversial draw for the WBC international title against local fighter Rodrigo Ramirez at the end of 2023. In April this year, García claimed the WBA Fedecentro title by unanimous decision against compatriot Pedro Delgado Gaytan. García, 23 years old, has a knockout percentage of 33%. Despite his lower knockout rate, he has maintained a streak of three unanimous decision wins, one draw, and one knockout loss in his last five fights.
