Rising super featherweight star George “El Yuyu” Acosta (13-1, 1 KOS) will make his 2023 debut against Marlin Sims (8-1, 4 KOs) in the 8-round bout as the main event on Thompson Boxing’s “New Blood” card.
Boxing fans will be able to watch live all the fights for free on the Thompson Boxing Promotions website and also on their official YouTube channel: Watch online
Tickets are priced at $50, $75, $100, and $125
Acosta’s last fight took place also in the same hotel in July 2022, where he had a tough battle against Isaac Avelar. Both competitors wasted no time in the first round trying to gauge each other's strengths and weaknesses and in round two, Avelar surprised Acosta with a straight left, but Acosta recovered and fought from a distance. Acosta knocked Avelar out in round five with a devastating straight right to the solar plexus but the latter stood up and made it to the final bell. Scorecards read 77-74 for Acosta.
“I am glad to be entrusted to start the year off for Thompson Boxing and am looking to provide an explosive fight for the fans,” said George Acosta. “Sims is a tough opponent, a game opponent, and these are the types of fighters that make me the best version of myself. I am looking forward to being extremely active this year, and to do that, I want to make some noise in this fight.”
