Biography
Dina Thorslund was born on October 14, 1993, in Copenhagen, Denmark, and grew up in Struer on Denmark’s west coast. Raised in a sports-focused household, Dina began boxing at the age of 13 in Copenhagen after tagging along with a friend, instantly feeling “comfortable” in the gym atmosphere. She often emphasizes the pride she feels when fighting at home—in Struer and elsewhere in Denmark—stating that local crowds give her a “huge backing.” Dina logged around 10 amateur bouts, competing in national tournaments such as the 2011 Danish National Championships, which she won. She also took part in Nordic and European Amateur Championships.
She made her professional debut on February 28, 2015, earning a first-round TKO victory over Petra Podráská in Hamburg. Throughout 2015 and 2016, she built momentum with multiple TKOs and first-round knockouts. In January 2017, she captured the WBC Youth super-bantamweight title, followed by the European super-bantamweight crown in March after a first-round KO of Gabriella Mezei.
Her breakthrough on the world stage came on March 10, 2018, when she outpointed Alicia Ashley in Struer to claim the WBC interim super-bantamweight belt, having sparred heavily during training, even dropping male opponents. Later that year, she won the vacant WBO super-bantamweight title and successfully defended it several times. On June 25, 2021, in her hometown, she moved up to bantamweight and earned the WBO title via decision over Jasseth Noriega. She has since unified the WBC and WBO belts (September 1, 2023, against Yulihan Luna), defended them multiple times—including a stoppage of Mary Romero in Copenhagen in February 2024—before recently vacating them due to pregnancy.
Outside the ring, Dina is a devoted mother to her son (born in 2014) and cares deeply for family life. She has two dogs, a home, and works as a therapist in a kindergarten for disabled children.
Technical Overview
Inside the ring, Dina is a thoughtful strategist, but fluent in the languages of pain. Her boxing style is a blend of world cultures - infused with Viking endurance, Samurai precision, Taekwondo geometry, and the fighting spirit of Mexican fighting. In a sport that often rewards brute strength, Thorslund creates art with her fists, composing each bout like brushstrokes on the canvas of legacy. If boxing were ever displayed in the Louvre, her combinations would be carved in marble.
She thrives on chaos and control within close quarters. She employs short-range overhand rights and digging left hooks - delivered with her feet set and her balance rooted, reflecting the Viking principle: never retreat, always advance with purpose. Her footwork is subtly influenced by Korean martial arts, featuring short pivots, and circular shifts that mirror Taekwondo’s redirection of force. This agility allows her to reset or counter in an instant, rendering her pressure layered rather than reckless.
Her most devastating combinations begin with a measuring jab - not just to disrupt her opponent, but to dictate the fight. She follows with a sharp straight right, digs into a left hook to the liver, and finishes with an arcing overhand right. This jab-body-head layering exemplifies sustained pressure, reminiscent of Mexican greats like Chávez and Barrera. Against Mary Romero, she demonstrated this fully, first silencing Romero’s movement with check hooks, then overwhelming her with angled bursts that disrupted her rhythm. She doesn’t just throw punches to score - she throws to finish.
Defensively, Dina employs a European high guard, tempered with the restraint of Budo - the way of the warrior. She rolls with her hips and regains space through positioning rather than retreating. Her performance against Zulina Muñoz illustrated her command: she adjusted her rhythm mid-fight and broke Muñoz down all while absorbing little in return. While calculating the next stanza of battle.
